Greetings My Beloveds,
Our May Annual Meeting is the hailing of the New Year for UCBA’s Board of Directors and Trustees. We are blessed this year to welcome four new members to the Board, Sharyn Mann, Kathy Breece, Lawrence Schechter and Andie Gauna. We are grateful for you, our congregation, for stepping up and supporting the elections and renewing faith in us as we carry forward our duties and responsibilities with Reverend Patty for our spiritual home.
Traditionally our New Year begins with our retreat. It is a time for renewal and spiritual nurturing and planning for the coming year. This year we spent the day with a change and growth management consultant who is a member of our church and a former Board member, Valerie McCloud.
We learned more about how each of us makes decisions and communicate. By the end of day, the Board had produced a plan identifying the major areas that will be our focus over the next 12-18 months.
Our work will continue with greater focus on bringing greater awareness to the surrounding communities that UCBA is an inclusive and diverse spiritual community that will attract all people, including young people and families with children. And, much more.
We came away with renewed purpose and intention, specific goals, and the beginning work of tasks to be completed, and assignments of responsibility of those tasks and follow through and completion. More information will come forth as these are developed by Reverend Patty and the Board.
Most notably, what came out of retreat is we want to acknowledge the importance of suggestions that congregants bring up during the Annual or Unity In Community meetings or anytime. We are committed to follow through when it is at all doable. Our intention is availability and accountability.
As we work through the results from the retreat, we will share information. There will be congregational participation. Board business is no mystery. We encourage you to come to a meeting, read the meeting minutes posted on the bulletin board in the hallway and talk to us about what is on your heart and mind.
We are also starting a churchwide book study on July 7th. We will be Creating The Beloved Community using the book by the same name by Jim Lockard. You may join us in-person or by Zoom each month. Pick up a flyer at the church or call the office for more information.
Thank you for all your love, support and sacred service to our spiritual home, Unity Church of Bon Air!
See you at the front door on Sunday!
Love and Light,
Amy Fulcher-Davis
Board President
